| after some more ideas on why a computer slows down I have been trying too sort a computer for a friend that regularly slows to a crawl, does not stop completely but slows down considerably, like things open but it takes 5 mins or so. It a HP pavilion that runs XP it has little software loaded on it except word 2000 the usual internet stuff plus Norton AV Corporate package (not as bloated as the consumer one) and a few other minor bits and bobs. XP has restore points on it and if I take it back to those restore points it works fine until it has been restarted a few times then it starts too crawl again. So I am presuming something happens after that. I am going too try it without Norton too see what it does with that, then load it again and see if that or the updates for it are the cause. (although never had a problem with this version of Norton, it did originally have Norton 2003 on it but that was slowing the computer down so took it off and put the corporate version on in its place) I also want to see if its the updates for xp that are causing the problem as it often grinds too a halt when that is loading up and has been disturbed. Can anyone give me any other ideas as to where the problem may lie with this poorly computer? Things to check out and experiment with? |

| Re: after some more ideas on why a computer slows down You could try running some spyware/malware scanning software like Adaware or Spybot. You can find a tutorial for running Adaware and link to the free download here http://askhow.net/article49.htm Hope this helps --- Jaks http://www.askhow.net Free Computer Support Humor Recipes and More....
