| Re: EMachine T1801 From: "Carlis" <computerdoctorsinc********.com> Subject: Re: Emachine T1801 Date: Friday, February 20, 2004 7:50 PM I would not "monkey" with the MSDOS.SYS file. This file is definably a operating system file and has nothing to do with the CD-ROM drivers. Copying another MSDOS.SYS file from WIN95, WIN98SE, or WINME to your operating system is no guarantee it will correct the problem. Especially if you have WIN98 or WINME installed on your EMachine. Now others may differ but my ONLY quick and easy solution is to install your OS restore disk for the EMachine and call it the day. I'm a Emachine customer but your PC is 10x better then mine but I have upgraded and I'm running WINXP Home and the EMachine I have has been running for 3 years. Hope this helps... Computer Doctor |

| Re: EMachine T1801 Problem is the restore cd will not boot up at all. the tech i talked to said maybe the drive was not fast enough to boot it. Althought the cd drive was replaced only 4 months ago. I am haveing problems loading programs as well the last few I get a File Is missing Did a Virus check and none were found at all. And every so often the system will just freeze up. Any clues as to what else I may do?\ On 20 Feb 2004, you wrote in alt.computers: > > From: "Carlis" <computerdoctorsinc********.com> > Subject: Re: Emachine T1801 > Date: Friday, February 20, 2004 7:50 PM > > I would not "monkey" with the MSDOS.SYS file. | Re: EMachine T1801 Well is the CD-ROM 48x drive or better. But I have to say "where are the real EMachine technicians". This guy really don't know what the heck he is talking about. "The drive NOT fast enough to boot the CD-ROM" I'm laughing over here. Now on a very serious note here if you know how to play with the PC BIOS the Emachine tech should have walk you through this process. Going to the BIOS will show if the CD-ROM drive(s) are in the boot up sequence. This boot sequence will allow the CD-ROM drive to boot from a CD. Now if the CD drive is NOT installing applications from the CD-ROM it could be a defective or unclean CD software. So I did a quick check of your unit model and your operating system (OS) should be WINME. GET RID OF WINDOWS ME. There are sooooo many issues with WINME on EMachines. Including constance freezing and OS locking up through application processes. You can do updates to WINME but it will get worse. But I still feel that your problems are OS related and not hardware related issues. Now this is what I would do: 1. Check the Boot sequence in the BIOS (CD drive(s)) (don't know how to access the BIOS it should be DEL key. but don't access if you are not familiar w/ BIOS. Bad changes in the BIOS will make the PC really run bad.) 2. Check CD media (scratches and dirt will cause the CD not to install applications properly) 3. GET RID OF WINDOWS ME (QUICKLY) (this is a really bad OS and there is nothing any end user can do to repair the countless issues. Microsoft knows of this and their updates for the OS JUST DON'T WORK.) |

Well Winme I guess I will switch to another o/s. Did the bios and the cd drive is set as booable the cd i have is not the one that came with the system iI replaced that one about 4 months ago. Cleaned the cd disk with soap and water as the tech suggested but I guess my problem is partly because I let my daughter use this computer while she was away at college and who knows what someone did to the thing Other that that I don't know what else to do with it another than take a shot gun to it. If anyone else has any other suggestions please tell me. Other than using a 20 gauge shot gun as compare to a 16 gauge |

I have an eMachine Monster 600 running W98 and it freezes all the time. I find it hard to believe that eMachine is still in business when the newsgroups are peppered with comments about their failed machines. NEVER AGAIN! |
