How Do You Network Without a Router?

Dear:All,

I am wondering if you could network two computer together
without a Router. I have two NIC cards and all the cables. Windows 98 will
be the Server or main computer. The sescond computer is Windows 3.1. I
have everthing I need(I think). I can Download Software for the server. I
also would like to Share my connection with the second computer. Windows
3.1 has CompuSereve Browser.(I don't know if that will work)

Feel free to send me links.

-Travis :-)

Re: How Do You Network Without a Router?

1st; you will have to upgrade your Windows 3.1 to "Windows for
Workgroups Ver. 3.11"
Then you will need a crossover cable between the two systems' NICS.
Set the workgroup on each to the same name.
Set the protocol on each to the same one (Netbeui is the easiest to
deal with)
Set the machine names of each to something different on each
