My problem is, when I reboot with my windows 98 boot disk I get a message that say's devise drivers not found: MSCD001 no valid CD Rom device drivers selected. How can I get my CD Rom drive to work so I can reinstall Windows? If it doesn't recognise the CD-ROM drive you will have to use the installation disk that came with it. |

Bad boot disk, but unlikely. Must be a true Win 98 boot disk, not 95. 2. Bad CD ROM drive, maybe. 3. Ribbon cable to CD ROM drive not inserted fully, or power cable also. red tracer must be on #1 pins on both the motherboard and drive. 4. CD ROM not plugged into IDE 2 on Motherboard. (Plugged onto an interface card or sound card instead.) 5. Bios not enabled for IDE 2. Usually F1 at startup takes you into bios setup. 6. If this is a very old computer i.e. an early 486, it may not have a second IDE plug-in on the motherboard. 7. Maybe the CD ROM drive is not IDE ATAPI compatible, or a SCSI device. Those almost always require a separate interface card, requiring additional software. Great fun isn't it? |
