| Ram I have 2 pc's that I try to change the ram on. One has 512mb of pc133 and tried to remove 256 for another pc. The other was pc133 that uses ddr also and tried to put ddr in place of pc133 and the monitor does not fire up in both cases. Monitor stays in sleep mode and don't see any screens. Is there something I have to do in the bios before removing ram. I have never had a problem just adding ram but this is the first time I have tried removing ram. thanks |

I understand I cannot use both. I have one pc with 512mb pc133. It is working fine and recognizes 512. When I remove 256 stick for another pc the monitor does not fire. The other machine uses both pc and ddr as well. It is working and recognizes the 128MB of pc133. When I remove 128mb of pc133 to install 256mb ddr the monitor does not fire. I know for fact it is not bad ddr. Both machines have K7S5A Pro ECS MB. Any ideas on this one? thanks, appreciate the help! |

| Re: Ram -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 So lemme get this straight: Two PCs, (A) and (B). PC (A) has two sticks of 256MB PC133 DDR RAM PC (B) has one stick of 128MB PC133 DDR RAM Now, I take it that: 1.) (B) works as it is 2.) you have taken out the 128MB stick from (B) and tried either of the 256MB sticks of ram from (A) in it with no success. If this is the case, then it might be that the ram has different timings. The 256MB sticks might be slower than the 128MB stick. If you're confident enough you can go into the BIOS of (B) and set the memory timings as high (big numerically) as they can go, eg change CL2 to CL3, 1-1-1-1 to 3-3-3-3 (or something like that). Otherwise, the ram could possibly just be "incompatible" with your motherboard (not so likely with new motherboards but true of 1st gen DDR). !!! Note that changing the BIOS in the wrong way can lead to an motherboard that won't boot! This is usually resetable via a jumper on the motherboard but don't say I didn't warn you, 'cos I just did!!! - -- Ben M. - ---------------- What are Software Patents for?
