Need Opinions

Hi, my name is Emmy and this is my first time posting to this group.

I am currently using:

P-3
450 MHz 512K
Asus P3B-f Motherboard
16*64 PC100 SDRAM (128)
ATI Xpert 128 16m AGP Video card
1.44 MB floppy
HP CD-Writer Plus 8100
Sony 48X IDE int CDROM (writer)

I want to upgrade to a P-4.

This computer was assembled at a small independent
computer store and they have been exceptionally good their support and help.
They loaded all my
programs from my old computer onto this one and would do the same if I
purchased another computer from them.

I would like opinions from some people. Would you
purchase another clone, a Dell or HP?

Thanks to all who respond,
Emmy

Re: Need Opinions

X-No-Archive:Yes

Here are my personal ratings based on Performance, Quality, Tech Support
and compatibility. 10 = Best, 0 = DO NOT BUY (even if free):

Dell ................. 8.1
Micron ............... 7.9 (inflexible and pricey)
IBM .................. 6.8
Gateway .............. 6.0 (fails in Customer/tech support)
Compaq ............... 5.6
Acer ................. 5.3
Sony ................. 4.5
AOpen ................ 4.2
EMachines ............ 3.0
HP ................... 2.9
NEC/Packard Bell ..... 2.0
Daewoo ............... 0.2 (anything from them)

Shop/Custom built machines are impossible to give a general rating
because they are all different and vary daily, although it is here that
you find the ratings of 9's and 10's..

I would say go with a clone if you have never had problems with your
computer before and have had good tech support from these guys. Sounds
like they have been really good to you, why not show them some support.
All the others are going to be a pain int he butt, especially if
something goes wrong. Wouldn't you rather take it down the street and
probably get it back the next day...or would you rather pay shipping and
spend a couple weeks without a computer if something bad happens?
Dell's tech support is excellent...if your a corporation with thousands
of computers, otherwise you'll just be another one to be stepped on when
your in the way. HP computers in general just suck...My dad went from
and HP to one I built for him...he loves it.
