Outlook Express is still down

Since the end of last September I have been unable to send or receive any
emails through my Outlook Express system.
Even though I have had my computer in twice for repair, the people at
GATEWAY can not fix the problem, all they can do is suggest that I buy
another computer with the minimum amount of micro-soft parts, they even went
as far as to suggest that I buy an APPLE computer.
My internet provider COX, to whom I have on average contacted at least once
a week, tell me the very same thing.
As COX does not have anywhere that I could bring in my computer for them to
look at, nor do they make house calls, there is really very little that they
can do.
There is a very problematic and convoluted way in which it is possible for
me to retrieve my email messages, but not to send them.
It is a very slow and time consuming method that literally takes all day.
Their has to be a better way than this.
I am very frustrated that I cannot email MICROSOFT and ask for help.
Hell they do not even have a telephone number for their alleged Tech
Support.

Re: Outlook Express is still down

At LEAST one of the suggestions going back to your BOHICA post, should
have worked. Or do you just like to whine about it??? I suspect the
latter.

Re: Outlook Express is still down

Thank you for your past help and suggestions, but I am very sorry to say
that they did not work nearly as well as I would have liked.

As for my Whining, can I please have some cheese and crackers to go with
that.

Re: Outlook Express is still down ! ? !

At long last (way to long) I got through to Tech Support at Microsoft.
They tell me that what I described is impossible, and even if it were it is
not their problem to solve, but GATEWAY as they are the people who put my
computer together.
As far as they are concerned it is irrelevant that they used MICROSOFT
parts.
Go figure !

GOING OFFLINE FOR REPAIRS

Tomorrow I take my computer into the GATEWAY repair shop, for the third
time.

They tell me if they can not fix the problem they will give me a brand new
computer as a replacement, at no cost to me.

Why, because I still have over a years worth of warranty left.

Still I do not think that I will get either my old computer or a replacement
computer any time soon.

By that I mean I will be without a computer until some time early next year.

What a strange feeling. As much as I dislike Gateway, Dell and the likes I
all of a sudden feel sorry for them.

Re: Outlook Express is still down ! ? !

Just about every 'burg' has a number of computer techies that make
house calls. Some have a no-charge guarantee, if they cannot fix it.
Look in the yellow pages, or the local newspaper. Worst case
scenario, they will format and reload your hard drive. A smart techie
will plug a pre-loaded hard drive into your computer temporarily, to
try to duplicate the problem. (Box of Limburger forthcoming, to match
the whine).
