Recovery CD #4 for HP ZE1201 Laptop - help please

Long story short - my laptop (HP ZE1201) is 2 months out of warranty.
Developed a problem with it, lock up, Explorer dieing, finally thought
I'd just bite the bullet and restore from the HP Recovery CD's. Found
that CD #4 (or 4) is bad, restore reports that needed file isn't found.
For more than 4 hours today got bounced and sat on hold with HP trying
to get the recovery CD (guess a purchase). I have a dead laptop now
since the recovery failed (how many people test their CD's - you expect
a recovery CD pack to work, right?).

Looking for someone who might be able to provide an image (ISO) of the
CD so I can burn a clean copy and get on with trying to recover my laptop.

The number on the CD is F5398-120002x (where x=A for CD1, B for CD2,
etc). I need F5398-12002D - here's hoping someone can help out on this.

Thanks!

Frank - using XP, the problem (or challenge) is that the operating
system is on the recovery CD's that HP includes. 3 CD's install, the 4th
fails and now the entire unit is useless because of this. The recovery
CD's are supposed to configure the hard drive just as it was from the
factory - no seperate operating system disks.

Re: Recovery CD #4 for HP ZE1201 Laptop - help please

I'm not worried about loosing everything, all my important data is stored.

As for HP, common sense is that they would send a replacement at no
charge, but their tech support via email has told me that's not the case
since it's out of warranty.

Re: Recovery CD #4 for HP ZE1201 Laptop - help please

hi bob

there is a feature in xp called system restore. go to start > all programs
> accessories > system tools > system recovery.

It is a feature built into xp and needs no cds or anything. just select a
time when your computer was working fine and xp will restore itself to that
point. you won't loose any data and it can be reversed. this feature has
saved my ass a few times and I would recommend you try it.

good luck
