| Windows 2000 new install lockup dead Hi all.. I just purchased a new dimond max drive:: system : Abit KX7-333 board, 120GB hard drive 8MB buffer, AMD 2200+ Processor, windows 2000, liteon cd-rw drive, 56x cd-rom drive, zip 250 drive, logitech mouse, I have had this system running fine with my old hard drive (maxtor 60GB) I installed a new hard drive, formatted it into one large partition, and installed windows 2000 fresh. I installed all the drivers that i needed and everything works fine. HOWEVER::: I noticed that every now and again, the pc will lock, ctrl alt del wont do anything, the mouse stops working, everything just dies. The processor is running cool (checked it in bios) I have never seen windows 2000 lock up like this, usually ctrl alt del will fix it. Must be some kind of hardware or software conflict because in a strict dos mode (NORTON GHOST) i had no problems backing up my 120GB drive to my 60GB drive. I was going to try and ghost again and use the other drive to see if that made a diffference? I was also going to disconnect my zip 250 drive off the ide interface,.. My question is : has anybody had similar problems and what was it.. what can i try to do to fix it? Thanks, Kenny |

| Re: Windows 2000 new install lockup dead I would first check your BIOS settings, particularly those for memory settings. "Ken Gallo Jr." wrote: > > Hi all.. | Re: Windows 2000 new install lockup dead I tried everything i could think of.... i even tried converting my 60GIG ghost of my larger drive to FAT 32.. Here is the deal... two drives a new one @ 120GB and my old one at 60GB... both are ghost imigas of each other... it doesnt matter which one is installed it appears that the computer locks up. both drives have ntfs. I tried to convert my little drive to fat32 using partition magic with no luck. It appears to be a software problem, at least i know the new hard drive is not bad. Anybody know what i can try? Thanks, Ken "Ken Gallo Jr." <merc45@optonline.net> wrote in message news:8pFCb.121184$655.17993007@news4.srv.hcvlny.cv .net... > Interesting... the bios hasent changed from when i removed and installed > the new hd.. i will however take a look... the other thing is that i > forced the old hd to lba mode.. this new one is set in bios to be auto... > would that matter? > > > Thanks..
