Computer won't load Windows I am having a problem with my computer. A few weeks ago I started having trouble with my computer so I tried to reinstall WIN XP. About half way through the reinstall I got an error and when I tried to restart the computer I just got a message that there was no bootable device. I got a new hard drive because I thought I might have had a virus. I tried to get the new harddrive to load windows xp, but I kept getting an error that it could not copy files. I connected the new hard drive to a different computer reformatted the new drive and installed XP fine. When I went to put the new drive back in my computer it starts up and I can see that it detects my memory (512), my harddrive and my cdrom. Then it beeps once and checks the floppy drive and then justs shows me a blinking cursor. There is nothing in the floppy drive and I have put the new drive in a different computer and it will load to the WIN XP desktop so I know that there is nothing wrong with the new drive. I went in and tried to reset back to defaults as far as the CMOS is concerned and that still did not fix it. I tried a different cable for the harddrive to the MB and I disconnected the CDrom. I tried a different video card. None of these fixed the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Computer won't load Windows The HDD sounds like it works fine so my sugestion is to go into the bios and check that it is recogised as the primary master device, if not, see if it will detect it using HDD auto detect. combrains

Re: Computer won't load Windows You haven't given us much info on your machine. All you have told us is that it has a CD-ROM drive, floppy drive, Hard drive and 512 MB RAM. Is it a Pentium II or Pentium III machine ?? Is it a brand name machine that came with a recovery disk ?? Did you build the computer yourself ?? For XP to lock up on boot in most cases is caused by a hardware conflick.
