Which Processor is Faster?

Forgive my icomputer gnorance, but I need your help on this issue for buying
a laptop.

Ignoring the built in wireless capability issue (on the Centrino), isn't a
pentium M processor a notebook at 2GHz or higher much faster than a notebook
with the Centrino at 1.3 or 1.4 MHz? Or is the clock speed here misleading?
Therefore, if computer speed is my goal, why would I ever choose the slower
Centrino (again, ignoring wireless or power saving issues, etc)- or is it
really slower?
