I have a problem with the web browsers

I have a high speed connection but often when I surf the web, explorer
works very slowly (like when I had a regular connection), this is
annoying and I don't know what causes it. When I just try to download
stuff the speed is fast like it should be.
Does anyone have an idea why I have this problem and how I can fix it?
Thanks

No one can help you with information about your setup and hardware.

Re: I have a problem with the web browsers

As noted, offer specs.

Also, what is the status of anti-virus software? *bt.

Re: I have a problem with the web browsers

I'm not sure exactly what details are needed: I have a Pentium III and
Windows XP Professional installed. I also have Norton Internet
Security Installed.
I'm using Explorer 6.
Do you have any idea what causes this problem?
Please help,
Ro'ee

To eliminate a possible misperception of 'slow internet', first offered is
this site: http://www.testmyspeed.com, and run some speed tests. Keep in
mind that Internet speed is -constantly- varying, but a baseline might be
established. It wasn't noted by you if your 'high-speed connection' is cable
or (a)dsl. For info, cable is slowed by quantity of concurrent users on your
node, whereas (a)dsl speed is affected by distance from origin. Many of
these tests will report what is 'good' or 'normal'.

There's no 'obvious' bottleneck apparent via hardware description given
inference from your P3 chip and OS, but note that a forthcoming link will
address issues such as NIC, USB connection, and interferences. See in
particular it's "Tweak" page from point #1.

While Norton Internet Security loaded may indeed also eliminate virus
concerns, it is not beyond all doubts! The reason for this (perhaps unlikely
scenario) is that Symantec's site notes that for proper removal of some
viruses, steps must be followed exactly, including on occasion, downloading
a fix direct to the HDD then disconnecting from the Internet to effect
removal. Likewise, in cases, Symantec goes as far as to recommend its' own
uninstall then reinstall after certain removals. As a suggestion, from this
page: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ under 'virus definitions' see
'download virus definitions' (using the manual 'intelligent updater'), and
'free online virus and security check', and fully comply to any security
holes. To explain, as an example, a password Unprotected account might be
all that's needed for a hacker to access your resources. On a separate note,
the installation of a firewall and spyware detection softwares are urged.
