| CD-RW/DVD Windows Recognition I seem to be having some trouble with windows dectecting my new SONY CRX300A CD-RW/DVD drive. The BIOS detects the drive fine. When Windows XP Professional loads, I get the pop-up message "New Hardware Found - Sony CRX300A," but I cannot use the drive. When I go into the device manager and click under the drive properties I see this message under the device status, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)." I'm guessing that the driver is missing and not corrupted. I'm guessing the simple solution would be to insert the restoration CD into the drive and restart, but I got this computer from a friend and the proper CD did not come with the computer. Any suggestions for what I should do to resolve this problem? Thanks, Eric Scofield |

| Re: CD-RW/DVD Windows Recognition Actually, I figured out what was causing the problem. It seems that there were values in the registry that were causing the problem. The problem was resolved by going to the Regedit tool and going to the following folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11C E-BFC1-08002BE10318} Once there, right-click on and delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFitlers" values. I hope this helps anyone else who has this problem with the mysterious disappearing CD-RW drive. Thanks for the feedback.
