graphics card

I am getting a new PC from work. but the graphics card is a poxy onboard
one.
So can someone let me know what are best manufacters of cards, i know NVidia
are pretty hot.
In the UK a PC firm called Dabs do waht they call Dabs value, but say they
are powered by NVidia technology, and they come at a reasonable price £49
for 128MB. Would this be a good buy or should it be avoided like the plague
as it isn't geniue NVidia.

Also are Hercules any good for sound cards?

Thanks

David Quinton

Re: graphics card

David,

NVidia and ATI are the two main chip manufacturers making video card
chipsets. There are many companies making video cards using NVidea and ATI
chipsets. First, make sure that the PC you are getting has an AGP slot on
the motherboard so you can add a video card. Then you have to decide which
chipset you require. If you want to play the latest video games you will
need a higher end card that if you are only web browsing and using a word
processor. I suggest that you do some investigating before buying a video
card, or you may end up with a card that will disappoint you. Take a look at
the following web-sites:
www.tomshardware.com www.pcmag.com www.pcworld.com . There are many other
tech sites, but those will give you some valuable information.

Good luck,
Larry.
