floppy drive running with no disk

hi-

my floppy disk drive is running almost continuously-just short stops.
it is pegging my cpu. i can't think of anything other than a virus that
could cause this-anyone? my virus software isn't picking up anything,
and i can't see any realted process running in task manager.

thanx
