Spy Ware

How do you know that these free "spy ware" scans checkers available on the
internet are legit? Could they be installing rather than detecting spy
ware??????

Use something like Active Ports (free) and see if something is opening
ports and connecting to remote IP(s) trying to SPY on you.

Duane :)

Re: Spy Ware

I suppose they could be. You can get the reviews online at many of the
magazines and independent reviews.
I'm not sure so many people would be using and recommendin the sites if they
were installing spy stuff. You should have a good idea about who is
recommending the site

Spybot S&D is legit, as is AdAware, Spyware Blaster (Javacool Software).
OTOH, Spyware Nuker and several similar variants are not legitimate tools.
Rule of thumb: If you see it being advertized by a popup, avoid it. A visit
to alt.privacy.spyware might not be a bad idea either.
