| DDR 400 Memory I have heard ...if you use all the slots on your motherboard for RAM you get better preformance then someone who is only using 2 slots. (For example, putting in 4 256's, instead of 2 516's) Is this true? |

Depends on the chipset and memory controllers. In general, recent Intel chipsets like the 865/875 work best when using pairs of modules. Two pairs of 256MB PC3200 modules do not allow for greater memory bandwidth than one pair, only a greater amount of RAM. AMD chipsets, like the Nforce2 Ultra 400 benefit even less from pairing RAM modules. The performance gain in dual channel mode is generally less than 2% compared to a single module.
