DVD Writers Sony & Pioneer

Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing 1 of 3 DVD writers.

Pioneer DVR-A06
Sony DW-U10A
Sony DRU510AX

Anyone know of advantages or disadvantages of each. Any recommendations of
which once to get.

Re: DVD Writers Sony & Pioneer

I just got the Sony dru510a, and it works great...fastest ont he market as
of right now...but I don't know about 5 minutes from now. The software
sucks of course, so I got the new Nero, man its sweet. My dad uses the new
Roxio, and it is also good. I haven't seen any of the DVD burners come with
good software. Sorry don't know about the others.

Just so you know here are the Sony OEM & real equivalents. Do not get
swindled:

U10A = 500A
U12A = 500AX
U14A = 510

Liteon has a 4x dvd-r and dvd-rw as does Nec, LG, etc...

The pioneers do burn a full disc in 3 minutes faster than the sony
drives using 4x media.

The pioneer burns 4x for both dvd-r and dvd+r.
I've yet to use a single plus disc in my dvd burner.

Geez man your talking semantics...like I said...I don't know about 5
minutes from now if you read my original post...as in I don't really know.
If your going to burn rewritables the Sony IS faster than the pioneer, and
you still haven't shown me any proof of your 3 minutes faster claim. Show
me some benchmarks or something, then maybe I might believe it. I seriously
doubt your claim. It only has a 2MB cache as opposed to the Sony's 8 MB
cache. Bu they if you can back it up I'll believe you. Plus it only reads
at 12x as opposed to the Sony's 16x.

Re: DVD Writers Sony & Pioneer

I haven't had any success playing videos I burned on both DVD+RW and DVD-RW
on any standalone home theater players I tried. They only work on my PC.
DOes anyone know what the compatibility of HT players with rewriteables. It
must be low on all but the new models that have been shipping in the last
year.

Yep, you got it. Cheap players and old players are not going to have good
support of any type of recordable media.

Iomega's "superdrive" writes all three formats too. I've read in this
ng that the hardware inside it is the same as the LG/Hitachi drive
under discussion. I don't know if the Iomega drive is for sale yet.
Provantage shows it on their web pile, but it might be backordered.

DVD minus media has always been able to do multi session but you would
have to have rocks in your head to burn dvd video with multisession
because stand alone dvd players have a wee bit of bother with
multisession media.
