Dell Computer

Just a warning to all Dell Computers has one of the worst customer service
dept that I have ever experience. They lied to me constantly whether it was
intentional or lack of communication I don't know. I have two computer
systems that I bought from them one system I never needed any service yet
and I cross my fingers I don't. My laptop was built with the wrong hardware
installed they will tell you that they will do all kinds of things for you
but nothing is ever done. This email is for those that are thinking of
purchasing a Dell beware if anything goes wrong. If you computer does'nt
arrived as ordered I suggest you ship it back right away or you will be
jerked around untill you get the story you have had it to long to be able to
return it.

Re: Dell Computer

the main reason I do not like them is they use non standard wiring in
there systems which makes it even more difficult to use any other
components than dell.

Non-standard wiring? I've worked for Dell tech support on two different
occasions and I've never come across proprietary wiring. Don't worry - I'm
no longer employed there. Can you elaborate on this?

If you are referring to their portables, then you are correct. And every
portables manufacturer will have proprietary wiring in those systems.

Tim...

Can you give an example? I've never seen a Dell motherboard that wasn't the
standard AT or ATX format.

Re: Dell Computer

OK Tim... how many PSU have you replaced on a Dell lately. Why don't you go
to any PC parts store, buy a ATX PSU and hook it up to your Dell. Then go to
a friends house and post how you fried your computer because Dell decided to
do with a proprietary PSU. Sure it looks like a regular PSU and even the
connector looks the same. Go ahead. I dare you.

Re: Dell Computer

I have to agree with Tim. I used to do Dell repairs, I have been to
the local computer store and bought a correct power supply for a Dell.
Steve just because you do not know what power supply to buy does not
mean that Dell is a bad product.

Re: Dell Computer

the real problem is not the ps but the dell systems are nonstandard
wired. This ties you to them for upgrades and replacements more than
most OEM systems. I for one can not buy a system that is not using
standard components and wiring. I stopped buying gateway because they
put a mobo in there case in such a way as to make it impossible to
remove it without taking the case apart. I buy or have built computers
that use real parts not OEM stuff so as to make the system upgradeable.

Hmmmmm where did you decipher that I did not know what power supply to get
did I? Any local store that you bought a Dell PSU from is not a typical
store. My point is that Dell uses proprietary parts and one poster said
that they did not. In fact his claim was that he worked at Dell and was
still not aware of non-standard parts. Hell any e-Machine or HP/Compaq will
take a standard PSU. What ulterior motive does Dell have for that? Dells
are OK at best and their standard answer to problems is " put in your
system restore disc". Their bait and switch pricing tactics are not too
swift either. I tell everybody to by a Dell if they want to, but don't
expect a quality machine and forget about their "acclaimed support".
