Everytime I start my machine, I get the message:

Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. status BAD, Backup and Replace F1 to
resume


It boots up ok when I push F1, but I'm rather worried that the disc is
about to die. Ran Scan Disc, which made the message go away for a few
days, but it's back again.

Any advice much appreciated.

If you have any data you need on that drive, back it up right away. Go to
the hard drive manufacturer's website and download their diagnostic utility.
Run it from a floppy, paying close attention to any prompts. Record any
error messages.
