New Mobo install on existing system issue

I have a ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Motherboard that I want to install on my current
system. I want to know what I should do before I install it. I know the
hard-drives wont be a problem since I have taken them to other systems with
different motherboards and they run fine. I know when you install a
operating system it also installs drivers for your motherboard and it's
components that are displayed in the "SYSTEM DEVICES" under Device Manager.
I know this probably will create a conflict since they are the wrong drivers
for the wrong motherboard once I install the new one. What do you recommend
I do. I am using Windows XP Home edition on the system I will be putting the
new motherboard and I will be putting my old motherboard in my home server i
setup which is running Windows 2000 server and Windows ME.

I appreciate all your help and thanks in advance.
JP

Re: New Mobo install on existing system issue

You have anticipated the major issues. Make sure you have the drivers
available. You might want to check websites for updated versions than what
came with the mobo.

I would start slowly, like plugging in the video adapter only. Add the other
cards after you get Windows up and running.
You might need to use safe mode to get the drivers straightened out.

But also be aware that this is a major component change and you will need to
activate Windows again. If its been less than 3 months since you activated,
you will probably need to call to get a new product code. Or your Windows
wont function right if the countdown kicks in.
