IE Problem Solved By This Forum

Running XP, IE suddenly quit accessing internet sites although email continued to work.

I found a solution here - just removing the most recent Microsoft Update fixed the problem.

I want to say THANK YOU for being here and supplying the answer for what to me was an impossibly perplexing problem!
