Internet Explorer Cannot Download - No such interface supported

Hello! I am having a horrible problem with Internet Explorer 7.0 - I am completely unable to download any email attachments. I get this error message:

Internet Explorer Cannot Download
No such interface supported

Over the past few days, I have corrected some virus issues, and I may have deleted some necessary files with the "Add/Remove Software" device. I have tried to restore to an earlier date, but no matter what date I choose, the restore is unsuccessful. I have also tried downloading Internet Explorer 7 again, but that was unsuccessful in correcting the problem as well. When my computer starts up, it gives two error messages that both pertain to the RUNDLL file. Could that have something to do with this problem? I would appreciate any suggestions . . .

Thanks!
Angie

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Download - No such interface supported

Angie,

You've listed several issues here. Next time that your computer boots up, can you write down the error messages you are getting and let me know what they are? Also, try uninstalling IE 7.0 and installing Mozilla. Mozilla gives you free updates where IE 7.0 does not. IE 7.0 has been known to cause several problems especially if you don't have the current patches or updates in your system for them, which it sounds like you may not. In addition, which email application are you using - gmail, yahoo, hotmail, or what? What is your OS? If you have XP Pro, XP Pro has a safety feature that will not allow you to destroy necessary files without going into the regedit feature and editing or deleting them. Nonetheless, you are receiving rundll error messages, which tells me that there are some .dll files that are missing or corrupt in your system. Now, you stated a couple of days ago that you did a virus scan, what software application were you using? Some of those virus scan software applications don't always catch viruses and don't always repair the problems that the viruses or trojans left behind. As a certified computer repair technician, what I recommend you using is system mechanic 6. I'm willing to bet you also have a problem with one of your hard drives, or just your hard drive if you only have one and that it may not allow you to defrag. But first things first, let's start here. Get back to me and I will be more than happy to help you get your PC back to a normal functioning status.

I will try to uninstall IE 7, right now it is not even closing down but the problem did not start until I downloaded Yahoo messenger beta w/Yahoo toolbar. Is it possible the Yahoo messenger beta is the problem?

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Download - No such interface supported

Anything is possible. I almost want to recommend a fresh install, or even a restore point.

But, you definitely want to check your hard drive to make sure all of the connections are secure on the mother board and to the drive itself.

Also, try removing programs and get back to the basics. Check registry files, make sure they aren't corrupt. Make sure you've defragged your disk and checked the disc for errors (checking disc for errors generally occurs at start-up depending on your OS).

Once any and all problems are eliminated and corrected with hardware and the software, and you've checked device manager to ensure all of your devices are functioning normal and you have signed drivers assigned to the hardware, and you've corrected any other issues, then start re-installing Internet Explorer. After that, reinstall Yahoo and see if this solves the issue. If not, let me know. thanks!

Also, have you checked your security settings, in addition, what type of document are you trying to download? .pdf, .doc, .rtf, .xls, etc.,

Register two DLL's using RegSvr32: actxprxy.dll and shdocvw.dll. After you register those two DLL's, reboot your computer and try it again. The message should disappear.

Re: Internet Explorer Cannot Download - No such interface supported

Hi,

We are faced with the same problem on a couple of websites. All is fine in FireFox and also in IE8 (Beta) but not with IE6 and IE7. One thing that we have in common is that these sites require you to login before downloading the files. If anyone can help then I would be really grateful.

Kind regards
