external hard drive problem

hello guys,

i bought a few days ago a western digital external hard drive with 500 GB of space. i know that you cant use all the 500 gigs, but i do have a strange problem. the problem is that i can't copy a file on my external hard drive it says that i don't have enough space, but the file is 4,2 GB while i have 380 GB of space left. i have plenty of space but still i can't put a file on it thats 4,2 GB. I have 2 other files about the same size which i can't copy on the external hard drive either. I don't know if it matters but the filetype of the files i am speaking of is NeroBurningROM.Files7.img

this is really annoying for me because i thought that i could copy anything on it no matter how as long as it could fit on the external hard drive.

i hope that i get replies as soon as possible and i thank everyone who will reply in advance

Thank you for your help
