The education market is a growing market for technology. Paul Bray compiles a
nice overview of the technology landscape in schools, discussing trends and explaining pitfalls.
Other vendors have more faith in smaller form factors. Newell said: “We are seeing a growing demand for tablet PCs because they allow teachers and pupils to access their work easily and they can connect to the other devices in the classroom, such as IWBs.”
Tablet PCs and UMPCs are perfect systems for the classroom. Every student should have one with them. (1) Textbooks should be in their electronic form for easy searching, for student markup. Most important is that e-books are lighter than their distance cousins - the fat and ugly tagged book which is replaced every 7 years. (2) OneNote is a perfect tool for student to take notes. Plus, the teacher is able to share their lecture notes, PPT slides, and more with each student. The discussions move to a higher level of thought processes. (3) Finally, tests and quizzes on a computer are faster and provide students with immediate feedback.
