How many teachers using Tablets?

I've been doing quite a bit of searching online regarding Tablet PCs and their use in a classroom. What I'm finding is that there aren't as many as I thought! And that teachers who are using Tablets seem to have purchased them for personal use and just found it to be valuable in their professional lives as well.

I'm curious how many teachers a) use a Tablet in their classroom and b) how many of these were purchased by the schools and how many by individuals.

Last year, all math and science teachers in the high school were given tablets to teach with (total of 20 teachers.) This year, foreign language, special education, art, and administrators were also given tablets. I use mine extensively in the classroom, and most of the others use theirs at least 3 times a week in the classroom. We all use them much more for school than for personal use.

I don't have a specific number to point you to. However, I can point you to case studies. I pulled a list together and posted it on my blog. You'll notice when flipping through these that the schools have taken various approaches to using Tablet PCs. Some schools have issued to teachers only, others use the older mobile cart style, while others are part of one-to-one computing initiatives. You'll also see that some school districts that have issued Tablet PCs to teachers and there are several hundred classes per school.

Hope this helps.

Re: How many teachers using Tablets?

I teach Computer Science at a gifted public high school in Chicago and our department (3 members) has been using tablets for 2 years. In the past month, I negotiated and secured funding for all 68 instructional teachers to get a tablet. We finished imagin today and will be distributing through out the next couple of weeks. We worked out an amazing deal with HP. I also teach workshops to other teachers in Chicago on teaching with tablets and will be nearly solely responsible for training all of the teachers in the school. I plan to record a variety of training vidoes using Camtasia. Teaching with a tablet has changed the way I teach (for the better) in a myriad of ways. Oh, and FWIW, this is my first post in this forum.

Sure. I'd be happy to share anything I can. I am in the process of building a webpage / site for the teachers to see the resources (videos, sw, etc). I will post it here shortly when it is up.

Sure, I'd be happy to share anything I can. I am going to focus right now on getting these teachers trained and my resources page up and running. That should take me a couple of weeks at least. When the page is up, I will post it here for people to check out.
