| Classrooms of the futureMove to encourage IT tools VIDEO conferencing with students and teachers around the world could soon become the norm at schools in Singapore. This, thanks to a strategic collaboration between the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) and Microsoft Singapore. A dedicated research and development centre has been launched at the National Institute of Education (NIE) to promote the greater use of technology in schools here. Named the Classroom of the Future, the centre aims to change conventional ways of teaching by showcasing the advantages of introducing IT in school curriculums. Minister for Education Tharman Shanmugaratnam officially opened the centre yesterday morning. The unveiling of the centre signified the the final leg of the $20 million BackPack.NET initiative put together by IDA and Microsoft Singapore in October 2003.
