| Educators, parents weigh value of laptop computers for young students Back-to-school shopping for little Jimmy and Susie used to be easier: Pick up some clothes, pens, notebooks and maybe a Bart Simpson or Barbie lunchbox. But no more. Today, a growing number of parents of elementary-school children must decide whether to buy laptop computers for their young scholars. For years, parents of older students have faced that question as many colleges have encouraged, and in some cases required, the use of laptops. Now the trend is trickling down to lower grade levels.
