Tablet PCs to replace textbooks

Say goodbye to notebooks, considering the growing popularity of Tablet PCs, kids will soon carry this combination of laptop and notepad to the school.

No one could imagine these becoming the future textbooks when Microsoft developed them two years back.

Instead of just showing a molecule to the students, the students can download the molecule to their Tablet PCs.

An unrelated question but really bothering me. My daughters' schools do not allow electronic equipment. This includes notebooks and Tablet PCs. Why are schools in the United States behind the technology curve? It may be a loaded question but do our children mean so little to us that we don't want them to have the best possible future?

My understanding is that schools don't want to be responsible for problems with lost/stolen electronics. Too much potential envy from those that can't afford to provide their kids with the latest gizmo.

Also alot of the things being banned under this umbrella are things like pager, cell phones, gameboys, etc. which are viewed as distractions.

Yes, these are good points. However, this is why the schools need to supply the Tablet PCs. In addition, since my original Tablet PC was stolen then I'm one to argue that GPS is vital to being able to locate the units too.

Yes, my students love to instant message with their cell phones. However, our high school is starting a Business and Interactive Technology school. This school will use these devices in the curriculum to engage the students with the topics required by the state standards. In other words, this school is embracing the technology.
