Problems with Java and OS X 4.7

Hi everyone,

I am having a little trouble with Java and want to reinstall my copy of
OS X.4 in the hope that it might rectify the problem. I don't want to do
a clean install. I want to leave all my apps and documents untouched. ow
do I go about this. What should I delete in order for the install disc
to not think I have it already installed?
