Do you need to pay to d/l album covers with iTunes?

I recently d/l iTunes 7.0. I really like the coverflow feature, but I
have very few covers to go with my music. There is an option to "Get
Album Artwork", but you have to be registered with iTunes to use it. I
started the registration process and at some point they asked me for my
credit card #. Does using this feature allow you to d/l the missing
artwork for the music you have from your own CD collection? If it does,
are you charged for doing this?

(I looked through the documentation and could find nothing on this)

Nope, downloading artwork is totally free. It is annoying that you have to
enter a credit card number, but as long as you don't purchase any music you
won't have to pay anything.

Be aware that, AFAIK anyway, iTunes will only download artwork for music
that is available from the store... if you have other music its artwork will
not be downloaded. Again, though, it's all free.

While we're on the topic (more or less) of album art... I have been in
the habit of downloading album cover art from amazon.com; in versions of
iTunes prior to 7.0, it's been easy to select all the songs in an album,
and drag the downloaded album cover file, dropping it into square in the
bottom-left corner (as long as it's set to Selected Item rather than Now
Playing. After a moment, the art was added to all the selected files.

With ver 7.0, although that looks like it ought to work, I haven't been
able to make it happen... instead, I've had to apply the art to
individual songs, one at a time. Much more tedious!

Anyone else notice this?

you might be able to use another Apple account. I used my Apple
Developer account (the ADC free one).
