Educational deals?

I have a son who is starting college in a multimedia major. We have
all used only Windows XP programs and know nothing about Macs. Well
it turns out we find out today they use Macs exclusively so we're
planning on buying a Mac for him. Actually we are looking at the new
MacBook Pro (MA601LL/A). We know there are cheaper Macs out there but
figured it is best to go with the newer Intel based Macs and as well
get something that is powerful since he'll be doing multimedia work
and something that will last him through college.
I have a lot of questions but mainly i want to know, are there
educational deals that he can get as a college student? It seems I've
heard of these in the past but yet I can't find anything so I'd
appreciate any help on education discounts, etc.

Apple gives gopod discounts for college students, and most of all for
MacBook Pros. I believe there is also a "Back To School" deal that
includes a free iPod via Mail-in rebate, in addition to the regular
discount.

AppleCare, the service plan, is a really good deal at educational level.
