| reliable way to make Mac OS X unusable 1. Start iPhoto 2. Start importing pictures from a Samba server 3. Close the lid (MacBook Pro) 4. Wake up, Finder hung unkillable (not even SIGKILL helps). Never timeouts (waited a day) The GUI shutdown never finishes, "sudo reboot" never finishes either. The only way to get functionality back is to powercycle (press and hold power button). This actually is quite bad and relatively unexpected: even Linux survives this exact thing pretty well. Not to mention Windows. I mean -- did they ever test placing laptops to sleep? This (unmounting remote filesystems) is like the second problem on the list when you write a going to sleep script... |

| Re: reliable way to make Mac OS X unusable And of course you informed Apple so they can fix this bug, right? If not, then please do. You can use their discussion forum at the website. Try using Path Finder instead of MOSX Finder. I'd be interested if it has the same problem, in which case it might be a system specific bug, not the Finder. My guess: flaky Samba networking is part of the cause. Much as I love Apple, their networking always needs improvement somewhere. MOSX 10.5 will have a rebuilt Finder app. Let's hope they finally make the thing entirely Cocoa, like Path Finder/SNAX has been since MOSX 10.0.0 was released. :-Derek In article <MFKmg.1075$ii.94@newsread3.news.pas.earthlink.net >, Anton Solovyev <anton@solovyev.com> wrote: > 1.
