| Help with Graphite BaseStation, AOL and Windows XP!! Hi, Sorry for the crosspost but I'm not sure which newsgroup I should be asking this in. I am writing for a friend who has a Windows XP computer and uses dial-up to get into AOL here is Australia. I had an old graphite basestation sitting around doing nothing so I thought I would give it to her. I am unable to get it working on her computer. The computer detects the basestation but I am unable to get the computer to recognise it's internal modem or to get it to dial. How can I set up her computer to use the graphite basestation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Danny -- Thanks a lot, Danny |

That is to say, use your Mac (I assume you have a Mac) to configure the base station to dial into her ISP, authenticate itself, and establish the network connection. Then since the base station is a DHCP server and NAT Router, you have the PC get its IP address from the base station via DHCP. It has been a long time since I used a Graphite Apple base station, but if there are any DNS issues (can access web sites using the numerical IP address, but not using the name.com address), then get the ISP DNS server IP addresses and manually enter them in the PC's networking setup. And since the Graphite Airport base station is actually a router, you can share the dialup connection with other systems. While it is not a fast connection, and sharing it is not going to help, it does work. I actually used my old Graphite Airport base station in this mode for a year, just before I got my DSL connection. Bob Harris |

| Re: Help with Graphite BaseStation, AOL and Windows XP!! Hi Danny (and Bob Harris), I'm facing a similar problem -- Windows PC, Graphite AirPort Base Station, dial-up ISP. I've been able to configure the Base Station with my PC, using FreeBase software (google it and download). After making a wireless connection to the Base Station, open FreeBase, enter the IP address and password for the Base Station, and the configuration screens are there. My problem is, I can't get the modem to dial! I know that on Macs, there is an Internet Connect screen that can be used to dial the modem (I'm not sure that new MacBooks are set up for this, though), but there's nothing I can figure on my PC to do it. If I try to set up a new connection, the PC recognizes my internal modem only. And the wireless connect only accesses the router in the Base Station, not the modem. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob (irfen) |
