11-year old Discovers Mac OS X Security Issues via Microsoft Office



AppleMatters has reported that the OS X simple Finder/ parental
controls can be bypassed via simple functionality within Microsoft
Office Documents. Examples cited include a bypass via PowerPoint..

I'm not at all surprised... a few years back, the school district I work
for was promoting an IBM Windows-overlay called SchoolVista; among its
promises-- the same sort of control over what files or programs could be
accessed when students were logged on.

I demoed how easy it was to use the 'simple functionality' within the
standard Windows File/Open dialogue boxes within any of programs allowed
by SchoolVista to then go and locate and open unallowed documents and
programs.

Sounds like the same sort of issue.
