Slow login in Tiger

Hi, I'm running 10.4.5 on an iMac halfdome. Three users are installed on the
system; my wife and son have no trouble logging on, but when I do, the login
is painfully slow--it takes nearly half an hour for my desktop to come up!
This problem started after I installed iLife '06, and tried running
GarageBand, which went into a stall after it said it was "initializing." I
CAN run GarageBand if I log in under a different user!

I ran DiskUtility on it, and the hard drive doesn't seem to have any
problems. Does anyone have a clue?

TIA,

-Antsy in Berkeley

Hi Jim,

.... I'm totally clueless. :-) Still, 10.4.6 is out since the day before
yesterday. I applied it and it solved *loads* of problems I had with
10.4.5. So I suggest you may want to give it a try.

Try deleting these two files:

/Users/you/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.cs
/Users/you/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist

See if that brings thing back to normal.

I have both my Documents folder and my Applications folder on the Dock
and my 500 MHz G3 iMac loads my login in seconds, not minutes. I doubt
that's the problem.

I would try bypassing login items. Hold down the shift key while
logging in to prevent the login items from loading. If this makes
login normally fast, your problem is in your login items. Find the
one that's causing the trouble and disable it.

(You'll find these in System Preferences->Accounts->Login Items)
