Slooooooow iMac-DV

I recently got a iMac-G5. My wife took my iMac-DV (OS 9.2.2). She
installed a few applications (scanner driver, etc). Since then when she
boots the computer it is so slow. After booting, she can quit the Finder
and it runs fine. I have tried Norton Utilities, DiskWarrior, trashing
the Finder preps, zapping the PRAM, starting with different combinations
of control panels and extensions. Noting seems to work I am going to try
reinstalling the OS, if that doesn't work, I don't know.

Does anyone have an suggestions for fixing this problem?

Reformat the hard drive and load OS 10.4. You may need to add memory.

Can you tell us what applications were installed? Perhaps one of them is
misbehaving and hogging the CPU?

> Does anyone have an suggestions for fixing this problem?

I think I'd make a sincere recommendation to install Mac OS X 10.3 on it.
I've found 10.4 to be rather slow on this family of computer, even with
plenty of RAM (1GB) in place. Mac OS X 10.3~10.3.9 runs very well and is
quite stable on these machines.

William

It turned out to be the GlobalFax Toolbox extension causing the problem.
Several installations from both the original disk and backup copies and
copying the extension from her old computer didn't solve the problem.

We (I) have several computers running OS X including a 20" G 5. She
wanted OS 9.2.2! (OS 10.3.9 is installed on her computer)

Understandable. If she's running apps that are designed for pre-OS X
environment, they launch & run faster on 9.2.2.
