| iWeb export to other software. Dear members: After playing with iWeb to develop my first web site, I ran into some limitations that prevent me from reaching the fine results I had originally envisioned. One idea that came to mind was to use iWeb to build the initial concept since it is easy to use and then transfer the site to another application such as Dreamweaver to add more features to the web site. I tried to open the site in Dreamweaver but nothing happened. It opens the web site created by iWeb but nothing is displayed on the index (or home) page. Interesting enough when I choose the command "preview in browser" the page is displayed in the browser just as it is in iWeb. I also found iWeb to be rather limited in what types of sites one can develop and what features can be added to a page. Is there a way to add features to iWeb ? Are there new templates to be downloaded or is one stuck with the templates that come with the application ? iWeb is actually a good idea and I have found it easy and pleasant to use. However, the limitations make it rather useless if one is thinking about using it to build a reasonably decent web site. How can sites created in iWeb be imported into other applications such as Dreamweaver and GoLive to have the initial site created enhanced to additional pages and features ? Anyone from Apple that can also help answer these questions ? Thank you in advance for your help and input. Best regards, Joseph Chamberlain |

As you say, when you display the site you create with iWeb in a browser, it works. iWeb may be limited, but it works. A web site is a text file that contains HTML commands (and often other code, such as Javascript or PHP). Though it is tedious, you can create one in a text editor. "I tried to open the site in Dreamweaver but nothing happened." But then you go on to say that Dreamweaver opened the file (something happened), and is able to display it in a browser window (something happened). I don't use Dreamweaver, so I don't know what "nothing is displayed on the index (or home) page" means. But it seems you are complaining about Dreamweaver. Your first source of help should be Dreamweaver's help facility or user's manual. |

I tried creating a page from one of iWeb's default templates and the page with the actual content (contained in the Sites folder) displayed in DW perfectly. This is why you see nothing if DW is set to Design View (you will, of course, see the code if DW is set to Split or Code View) but previewing in a browser shows the page, as it will immediately load the page referenced by the index.html file. iWeb can make some nice looking pages but a lot of the code would be better off in an external CSS file, rather than being embedded in every single page.
