Why does Safari use so much processor power?

I have a G4 20" iMac 1.25 GHz running 10.4.5, and I use MenuMeters to keep
an eye on my processor usage. Sometimes it is at 100% when I'm browsing
certain webpages (for example http://members.aol.com/bowermanb/101.html),
and when I open Activity Monitor it shows that Safari is the culprit. Why
do certain webpages use so much processor while other use only 5-8%?

Well, that's an exceptionally stupid web site for a start. It seems to
be rendering a table in Java or something. I had to force-quit Firefox
to get rid of it. Now I'll flush my history and be done.

That website has some dodgy Java in it which boosts your CPU to ridiculous
speeds. It did the same on my IE on XP, so it's pretty safe to assume it's
not a problem with either browser, but with that particular site.
