AVIs - How do you view them on a Mac?

AVIs - How do you view them on a Mac?

Quicktime and Windows Media Viewer never seems to want to display AVIs.

What to do?

Good luck.

It depends on how they were encoded.

There's a DivX plug-in which lets QUicktime play most divx avis.

http://www.divx.com

That seems to cover lots of them. For the rest, get VLC player or
MPlayer.

I also recommend DivX, which plays your *.avi movies in QT. I wish Apple
would support the format out of the box, because DivX compression is very
effective.

I have heard that Windows Media Player was discontinued, and that there is a
module somewhere for playing WMP streams in QT. Anyone know about it?

Yup, it's linked from the WMP home page at Microsoft:

Wow, we use Telestream's FlipFactory all the time for transcoding
various formats at work. Didn't know they were working on
desktop/consumer stuff.

Hope it's better than their Quicktime plugin...
