I keep on wasting discs Turn off bittorrent downloads while burning. :-) Seriously, thrashing the hard drive (with any software) while trying to burn can cause this problem, particularly with a slow drive. Sadly, the OS X file system is in need of some performance tuning on single-drive volumes. -- Randy Howard (2reply remove FOOBAR) "The power of accurate observation is called cynicism by those who have not got it." - George Bernard Shaw |

I keep on wasting discs Buffer undderrun means that you computer isn't able to feed the burner at the rate it needs data to burn the disc. - The burner first heats up the track, and then it must have the data to be burned available immediately. One remedy is to have a disc burner with under burn protection. Another is to make sure that the computer is able to feed the information sufficiently fast. If the data is on a slow hard disk, you may copy it over to a fast one and burn from that. One way to make faster burns is to make a disc image in "Disk Utility" and then burn that one. You may also use RW discs to avoid trashing discs. -- Hans Aberg |

In the old days if a burner temporarily ran out of data to write it would have trouble finding the exact spot where it left off and the disk would be ruined. Years ago this problem was fixed so I find your problem very odd, especially since you tried burning at 1x, which should obviously make it easy keep up with the burner. IIRC, 1x should be about 1.3 meg a second and if your hard drive can't do that it must be a billion years old. Here are some things worth trying: - check the toast prefs to see if "buffer underun protection" is turned on. note: if your burner is a billion years old it will not have BUP. - go to the toast prefs and set the RAM cache to the largest size possible. - turn off all the other apps - compress all the files into a single archive. If you have a lot of disk space this should put all the data into a continous disk section and make reading easier for the computer. - try running in simulation mode to see if toast reveals any important info through that. |
