XP <--> Mac OS 9.2

I have a PC running XP Professional and a Power Mac G4 running OS 9.2.

We have been using Outlook Express on the Mac for years and have a big
address book and many messages that I would like to transfer to the PC
---OR be able to connect the Power Mac to the PC so that I can use the
Mac from the PC.

At present I have both connected to a single monitor one analog and one
digital so I can switch between them. The trouble is that the Mac will
not recognize the PC keyboard so I have to use two keyboards.

Any suggestions for solutions to either the keyboard problem or
otherwise would be much appreciated.

There are a number of issues:

1) Physically getting the files from the Mac to the PC-- you could,
presumably, burn the files to a CD (in a Windows format) then open the
CD on the PC, or connect the two computers via ethernet and transfer
them via FTP, or invest (or use the free trial versions) in Dave (for
your Mac: www.thursby.com) or PC/MacLink (www.miramarsystems.com) on the
Windows system to enable file-sharing between them. Or use the
Internet-- for instance, with a gmail (Google Mail) account, you could
send yourself a message with a relatively large attachment.

2) File format issues-- I'm not sure whether Mac Outlook Express stores
files in a way that's compatible with Windows Outlook Express... I think
not. One way around it may be to use another mail program, available on
both platforms, that DOES use a compatible file format.

For instance, Netscape -- which is available on both (classic) Mac and
Windows can, I believe, import from Mac Outlook Express... then if you
transfer the files over to your PC, open the mail in (Windows) Netscape
Mail... then see if (Windows) Outlook Express can import the mail
messages.

Move2Mac, a US$50 software package for doing the opposite of what you
want-- moving data from Windows to (OS X) Mac-- talks about moving mail
messages as a bit of a challenge... and recommends using Netscape Mail
as the intermediary... " Our research shows that Netscape? 7.0 mail
offers the easiest way in which to move Outlook and Outlook Express to
the Mac. The process involves you importing your email into Netscape?
Mail. Move2Mac will then transfer the Netscape mail folders to the Mac,
and then you can easily import them into other mail applications."

(Eudora mail can also be used, but there are a bunch of steps needed to
'clean up' Eudora mailboxes in order to make the transfer work... it can
be done, but Netscape seems to be easier to use in this way).
