| Will not print during modemconnection I have a G4 iMac (1.25 Ghz, OSX 10.4.x) that has the following problem. Printing (to a Canon i560) works flawlessly. Internetting (using internal modem) works flawlessly. Problem is that I am hardly able to print while having a modemconnection. The spinning wheel comes and and keeps spinning for nealy a minute and then the print dialog comes. What can I do to solve this? -- jan |

If it's networked, the problem can be that it is trying to do a reverse DNS lookup to see who is printing to it and, when the modem is up, it's ending up going out to your ISP's nameservers to try to get that. Of course it won't, but it can take time with dialup to find that out. To see if anything related to DNS is the issue, try temporarily removing the nameservers from /etc/resolve.conf. You won't be able to surf by name of course, but if printing is then instant, DNS is in play here. -- Tony Lawrence Unix/Linux/Mac OS X resources: http://aplawrence.com Geek Yard Sale: http://geekyardsale.com |

There even isn't a local network at all It must somehow be related to the modem. The strange thing is that "About this Mac" describes the modem as a USBmodem although it is nowhere to be found under "USB". -- jan |
