| What's up with THIS weird behavior...? Hello: I have a Mac Mini running OSX 10.3.9. Recently, it "changed its protocol" (for lack of a better term) on me without my knowledge or consent. Used to be, when I turned it on, a progress bar would appear as it booted up, mentioning things like, "Waiting for network initialization", something about a "Firewall", etc. The progress bar would reach then end, and then it would show me the desktop. All of the sudden, the progress bar goes 1/2 way, then the desktop shows up. What happened to the other half of the progress bar, and all that other "booting up" that it used to need to do? Why did it change? Nothing else seems to be different (that I've been able to tell), as far as speed or anything else. I just find it weird that it now boots more quickly than it used to, and wonder what it's now NOT doing that it used to do... Can anyone offer an explanation? Thanks! --Guy Thurston, OR |

Anyone else still on 10.3.9 notice the same thing? My wife's 10.3.9 eMac is still giving the progress messages. Can you open up the About the Mac dialog box and click on the version number - this will show the Buildnumber - maybe that'll give a clue to someone about what's going on.
