| Problem with a juggling-impaired Mac Okay, so I'm a retard. Could someone explain to me why whenever I go online (via dial-up), my G4 iMac is utterly incapable of performing more than one Internet task at a time? For instance, I'm downloading a largish file from Safari. Well, while this is going on, any attempt to look at a new web page, or check my e-mail, or hit Usenet or IRC is either excruciatingly slow, or fails completely. I'm running OSX 10.3.5, incidentially. But the iMac's Internet performance is no better if I boot up and go online in OS 9.2. Presumably this points to something goofy with Apple's internal modem? Yet the connection works fine and everything downloads correctly without a problem -- there's simply no Internet 'multi-tasking' going on in the background. Any pointers/help here would be appreciated. Thanks! |

| Re: Problem with a juggling-impaired Mac dial up connections are slow with internal 56k modem you end u downloading about 7k per seconds ! and multitasking doesn't help bu rather slow down the dowloading process. Get a DSL or cable connection if you are using the web to downloa large files and if want to enjoy multitasking, hope you have at leas 512mb ram as well as use the apple combined update to upgrade fro x.3.5 to x.3.9 you can find it here : http://www.apple.com/support/panther/ regards http://www.macosx.com/forums/member.php?userid=2703 -- Gig [Emancipate yourself from mental slavery ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Gig''s Profile: http://www.macosx.com/forums/member.php?userid=2703 View this thread: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24065 macosx.com - The Answer to Mac Support - http://www.macosx.co |

Thanks! When you're already squeezing a camel through that dial-up needle eye, you'll simply have to wait until its through before proceeding with the next one. Or get a bigger needle, ie broadband. |
