| Mount Disk Image...? Hello: Does anyone know of a good place to locate a tutorial on how to do a Disk Image in Classic mode? Here's the scenario: I've got a Mac Mini with 512 Megs of Ram running OSX 10.3.9. I have a copy (2 CDs) of SoftWindows 98 that ran just fine on my Blue & White G3 with 492 Megs of Ram using OS 9.2.2. I'm not a Windows convert--I've owned computers since 1984, and have ALWAYS bought Mac. There has never even been a Windozer in my house! However, I need to run a couple of pieces of lightweight Windoze software for my job, and Softwindows 98 has always filled the bill. For some reason, Classic mode in OSX will not allow the installation of the two CDs. It will run through the first one just fine, but when it pops out the first CD and asks for the 2nd one, it will not recognize that I've inserted it into the drive. Someone said that I need to do a "Mount Disk Image", but that is not something that I've ever done before, so I'm a bit under-educated on the subject. Is this something that I can do in Classic mode? Or do I need to be in OSX? I'm looking for an easy-to-read, easily understandable, step-by-step process that will allow the installation of these two CDs. My G3 never had a problem with it, and it was running 9.2.2. Why is OSX doing this to me? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! --Guy Thurston, OR |

I think you could just do it with a Mac OS X disk image and have it already mounted before starting your install. Classic should see the Mac OS X disk image just fine. Use Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility to create a Mac OS X disk image of your CD or CDs. Then double click on the resulting .dmg file(s) to mount them. If you really think you need a Classic disk image, then use Disk Copy. You should be able to find Disk Copy at Applications (Mac OS 9) -> Utilities -> Disk Copy. Bob Harris |

To boot into OS9, go into Sytem Preferences and choose Startup disk, and choose OS9. After finishing your install, you reset the startup disk os OSX in a similar fashion. The installed software should then function in Classic mode. GW |
