| Iomega Zip 250 Drive and OSX Hello: I using a Mac Mini with OSX 10.3.9. I've been trying to get the Mac to recognize my USB Iomega Zip 250 drive, with no success. The Iomega website is of no help, as they have officially decided to disassociate themselves with that particular piece of hardware. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why 10.3.9 won't detect this drive and read the disks? Thanks in advance! --Guy Thurston, OR |

| Re: Iomega Zip 250 Drive and OSX Try a different cable or USB port. I can run it on both G4 iBook and G5 iMac running 10.4.2. Also worked with Panther. OS X simply uses it. No drivers are necessary. > Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why 10.3.9 won't detect this > drive and read the disks? First off, have you actually tried inserting media? I have a home-built USB Zip-250 drive (made from an IDE drive and a generic USB case.) When I attach this drive to my Mac, it doesn't appear in the System Profiler except when media is inserted. When I eject the media, the drive itself vanishes. If you've only attached the drive and not inserted media, you may be seeing the same thing. Assuming that the drive is still not found when you have media installed, check you cabling. If the drive is attached to a hub, make sure it's a powered hub. If I remember correctly, Iomega's USB drives (unlike the one I built) do not have external power bricks. So you need a USB port that can power the drive. This means either directly connecting it to a computer or to a powered hub. Unpowered hubs (including those built-in to keyboards) will not be able to power the drive. If that doesn't work either, try it on another computer. The drive itself may be defective. -- David |

My 250 USB works fine in Panther and Tiger. It's in the System Profiler with no media -- what about yours? |
