| Jammed CD Player For dumb reasons I won't go into, I put an odd sized CD into my slot loading iMac and now it won't eject. I have tried all of the standard ways to eject it. Has anyone ever taken the cover off the player to remove a CD? I can just imagine removing the cover and a million small springs flying out <g> Any help? |

| Re: Jammed CD Player Hi Robert, > I put an odd sized CD into my slot loading iMac and now it won't eject. > Has anyone ever taken the cover off the player to > remove a CD? Yes, I have! It's not as hard as it looks - the bottom of the imac comes off quite easily, removing the hard drive is pretty simple too, and then removing the CD is a little trickier, but common sense (do a google for imac technical manuals to be sure ... they're pretty easy to find). The good thing is that you are *nowhere* near the CRT and the stuff that can kill you if you don't know what you're doing :) Just make sure to earth yourself by touching some part of the metall chassis (pretty unavoidable in this case really), and don't play with anything you don't have to. As for dismantling the CD player, it's not going to explode like a slot loading land mine (!), just take it slowly ... The top comes off (from memory here) with four to six screws, and the jammed CD should come out pretty easily - it should be just a matter of prying the spring loaded arms apart (if that!) no brute force necessary. Good luck, and be brave little buckaroo ... Mikey Mike |

Perhaps a watch repair shop? I'm in Australia, so a shop name won't help (assuming you're in Texas ... ), but I got a cheap and nasty $7.99 50 piece screwdriver set from a cheap ans nasty shop (for those down under - "Clints / The Warehouse", or try "The Reject Shop" or "Go Lo"). Good luck on your screwdriver hunt (for some reason, that sounds rude ... ;) Mikey Mike |

Perhaps a watch repair shop? You can get precision screwdrivers (often referred to as jeweler's screwdrivers) with flat and Philips blades from quite a lot of different sources. Radio Shack and Sears should sell them. Precision screwdrivers with other kinds of blades (like Torx) are harder to find, but can be purchased if you do some web searching. (I needed a set of precision Torx screwdrivers to replace the screen of a Palm PDA a few years ago. No local store had them, but a Froogle search was able to locate a few mail-order stores.) -- David |
