My sounds shuts off.

Very curious little problem. Anyone else encounter this? Here is how it
plays out:

If I have a CD or a radio station or music via iTunes or ANY other music
playing, or for that matter, getting the system to make frequent clicks
and noises by doing stuff in the finder, everything is fine.

If there is a couple of minutes of sound inactivity, the audio shuts
down. How do I know? If I start to play a quicktime clip or whatever,
there is about a 2 second lag before the sound kicks in. Thereafter the
sound is perfectly fine until the next 2 minute (approx) idle period.

This has been with me for YEARS, thru various hardware and software
configurations, and peripherals. Going back about 10 years to an 8500, I
think. Currently a G4/500. The ONLY constant in all this has been that I
have been running dual monitors (with 2 video cards) for many years.

I am guessing there is something hard-wired into the system to cut the
audio out under certain circumstances when there are two video cards
present. I have not put this to the test as I don't have the time to
take the machine apart and run with a single monitor for a few hours.

I was wondering if anyone else (especially anyone using dual video cards
and dual monitors) has had this situation.

Thanks for any comments or feedback.

The sound on my Cube running OS9.1 often cuts out when I'm using
Realplayer. The only way to get it back is to reboot.
