Safari 2.0 fix?

Anyone hear of a fix for Safari 2.0's problems with secure Web sites and
certain Java applets?

I tried DLing the previous version (1.2) only to be told that it
couldn't be installed on my system (which is now running Tiger).

Can you point to a reference describing the problem? I have no trouble
with Safari 2 and secure sites, but I don't use much Java so probably
don't see the "certain" applets at issue. Just curious.

There is a page on MacFixit outlining known issues with Safari 2.0 and
banking web sites.

I can confirm the problems. I've seen postings on-line recently
regarding them, but am too lazy at the moment to go and find them. ;-)

In my case, my online banking site worked fine with 1.x, but doesn't
function properly with 2.0. Not a big deal for me. Overall, I like 2.0
better than 1.x, but it never was my primary browser so I really don't
care all that much.
